If you could have one super power, what would it be?
Mine?
Read my son's mind...
Remember that Nickelodeon show, Rugrats?  The babies could talk and walk and have full on conversations and adventures and then one episode it's from the parents perspective and the Rugrats are all goo goo ga ga, bla la, mah nah... Making absolutely no sense at all....  now, that I have a rugrat of my own I constantly wonder what goes on in that brain of his.  Max LOVES going under his high chair and under the bar stools and just sits there playing and talking for long periods of time.  Climbs in and out, over and up, stands up, talks to the seat, sits down, giggles.  It is adorable.  But what is he thinking, saying.   He'll crawl to our glass doors and peer outside, talking to the birds and bugs, watching the leaves rustle in the wind.  He is very content to talk and sing to his high chair, playing with the buckle, scooting the chair around the kitchen.                        [Stay small and innocent little love.]
I am currently planning his first birthday party, I have already shed thousands of tears over this momentous occasion.  Why do kids have to grow up?  t-minus 10 days until I have a one year old, a ONE year old!  If you need me, I will be hiding in my house, blubbering my eyes out, savoring the last few days of my sons first year of life.

26 January 2015

I know. It's been forever....

I have a son, and he shares. Just this week he started taking food and offering it to me. Can he be any cuter?

Jan 3, he started to clap. And he loves it. Anytime anyone says yay, he claps. He also gets petrified during football games when Mr. yells at the tv. So we've had to turn that into cheering and clapping. Teaching him the classic touchdown arms up as well.

Max is so close to walking. If he wanted to he already would be. He runs around the house "using" his walker. He can get down off the couch all by himself. He's mastered the staircase and loves music.
Enough with the bragging, I mean update...

He turns one, NEXT MONTH! Let me go cry...

Teeth crawler

This little boy of ours has teeth and is crawling! Time is flying so fast I almost forgot to post his 8 month photos on Sunday. I had no idea it was already the 12th again! I really should start posting his photos here and not just on Instagram. (jaimerayyan)

We're currently in the process of talking Mr. into getting grass for our backyard and trying to decide on our Halloween costumes. I think I've finally figured out our costumes and am going to attempt to sew Max's! Fingers crossed I can remember all the sewing tricks, I did make my senior prom dress, thanks mom for teaching me!
And the grass... I think we've convinced Mr. we need grass, however the timeline of when is still up for debate.  I believe we need to do it now so we can enjoy it this fall and even more so this spring! Max will be running around before we know it and we'll definitely need the extra outdoor space so he can run all his crazy energy out. Plus, almost time to play catch with dad in the backyard!
Today we escaped to the train park with some friends and we absolutely enjoyed laying on our blanket in the grass. Definitely did not help Mr.'s want for me to "maybe, hopefully" forget about grass for now. Don't think that'll happen ;)
Hope you're enjoying the nice weather as much as we are!

Peeking through

You may not see it, but I feel it. This right here is the mug of a boy with a tooth that is breaking through. 7 months and 12 days old and here it comes. Where'd my baby go? He is a big boy now! Mr is so ready to feed him steak... Little does he know, it'll be a few years. Max needs his 2 year molars before a nice juicy steak can be had.

23 September 2014

Sleepy boy.

I still can't believe he is all mine. . I was chosen to be this sweet boys mom. Heavenly Father entrusted me with this sweet being. I'm obsessed with him and beyond grateful that I was chosen to be his mom.  His personality is really starting to show, and since the beginning I've said I think he will be funny, and boy is he.  I want to savor every single moment and I could stare at him sleeping all day long.  I have always wanted to be a mom and it has been everything I ever imagined and more. There is nothing else in the world I would rather do than take care of my son, my family & our house.  Mr. is incredible for affording me the opportunity to be a stay at home mom.
Max is starting to crawl, for real. He's army crawling and keeps popping up on his knees. He'll be really cruising in no time. He's also babbling away like crazy. He is a talker! "Mamammaaaaa".  Still no teeth, but we're getting there. I'm in no hurry for those suckers to pop out, gummy bites hurt enough while nursing.
Jacque & Beau are in town! Tonight is date night and most of my siblings and their spouses and my parents are all going to eat at The Melting Pot, then go to glowe putt for glow in the dark mini golf! We have so much fun planned for this week. Sunday, everyone got together to welcome Jacque & Beau with a steak dinner. Last night,we did homemade pizzas and watched the bears game.  Tonight is date night, no kids allowed! Max is staying with his taita & cieto (Mr.s parents). The rest of the week we have plans to build tepees for the kids, eat waffles from the waffluv truck, hit up top golf, watch some more football games, ikea, have a game night and tons more.
We love having Jacque & Beau here, I think they should move here! We got Jennelle and Clint here, now it's time to work and Jacque & Beau.

teething.

I feel inclined to post...  Today has been a whirlwind day.  Max is in the midst of teething, and boy has it got him down.  He can't sleep for more than 15 minutes without waking in tears.  Running a slight fever, my poor guy is just miserable. I wish you could call the tooth fairy to come take away the pain of teething, now that is something worth a dollar, or a hundred.
Besides the woes of teething, Max is trying hard as he might to crawl.  He can not figure out the arms and legs together.  He is either up on his knees, face planted firmly on the ground, arms sprawled out to the sides or upward dog, up on his hands, and legs straight out behind him.
This day last year we told Mr's parents we were expecting, they could not believe it.  Frankly, neither could we.  We knew we wanted to start a family right away, but honestly, a honeymoon baby... Huge surprise.

Here is Max 1 year and 1 week ago.

23 June 2014

Time.

All our lives we are waiting for something to happen, the weekend, birthdays, holidays, vacations.  Me, I like where I am at and what I am doing.  I have no need for a time machine to speed up life up.  It's time to dance in the kitchen and sing in the shower, and just live my happily ever after.
I find myself 4 months 10 days 1 hour and 41 mins since the time my son was born.  Life sure knows how to fast forward.  Mr.  keeps saying he can not wait for Max to run and talk and be able to play football with him; me, I just want time to stand still.  Max has already lost his newborn infant look.  He is a boy, a little man, with a great personality.  He is so incredibly funny.  All the time I find him giving me these silly looks and his constant giggles and that big, toothless, gummy smile, I melt.  I revel in these first moments of Max's life.  I will never get them back.
Recently, I was asked if I miss my "me time".  Time alone to do whatever I want.  And honestly, no, I don't.  My son feels like an extension of me, as though I have grown a third arm.  I would not know what to do if my days were not spent with him.  My life revolves around this beautiful boy of mine.  Being a mom is the best calling in life, and being able to be a stay at home mom is one of life's greatest blessing.  If it were not for Mr., I would not be afforded this incredible life, so a million times over I thank you again and again.

22 March 2014

the day the earth stood still

Mr.'s alarm went off for work, we woke to a normal Wednesday morning, I rolled my-whale-of-a-self out of bed, heading directly for the restroom.  When you're pregnant you always know where the nearest bathroom is.  When you go into a store you use it, if you are there for longer than 20 minutes you use it again, and then once more as you exit the store.  Using the restroom in those last weeks may have been one of the most annoying parts.  You literally use the restroom, walk out and practically turn around and go right back in.
I digress... I made my normal pit stop.  However, this time, it was more than just the norm, I relieved myself, and then more came.  It wasn't the gush like in the movies, just a feeling like you're peeing, like your body is relieving itself wether you tell it to or not.  I stand up and walk to the sink to wash my hands, lean over the counter and whisper to Mr., I think my water broke.  He all but breaks the bed jumping out of it, yelling, "wait, seriously?!".  "Yes, I think so..."  I  change myself, and low and behold, I just keep leaking.  It's 7:30am and I know my Dr's office is now open.  I grab my phone and stand in the shower to make the quick call.. "Hi, this is Jaime R., and I am pretty sure my water broke".  They schedule me to come in at 10:00am to see the doctor and verify that in fact my water broke (and that I didn't just pee myself)  as I was not yet having contractions.  However, they said if things were to pick up then to just head directly to the hospital.
We call Mr.'s dad, and my mom, "My water broke".  They're on stand by for go.
At first we try to time contractions, I was feeling tightening, but no real pain, we give up.  I shower, blow dry my hair, get dressed, make a peanut butter sandwich, finish packing hospital bags and then install the car seat.  - See, that was on our smallish list of things left to do before baby came.  We literally had planned to install his car seat that very night, once Mr. got home from work.  Picture this, me, very hugely pregnant, having tightenings, pretty uncomfortable with Mr., trying to install this car seat.  I have worked with a car seat many a times, however, Mr. is quite green when it comes to any thing baby.  We were quite the sight to see.  -
Car seat installed, bags packed, we trek down the road to the doctors.  My doctor's office is all but 5 minutes from our house, and the hospital 30 seconds from there.  We first see the doctor's assistant and she all but says, it seems so, but let me have Dr. L come in and check you out.  Dr. L walks in and 1000% confirms, yup, it's time to have a baby. "Do you have your bags with you?", "Alright, let's get you over to the hospital".  At this point I am sure, Mr.'s eyes and mine are bug-eyed.  This is it, we are having a baby.  After all those birthing classes and the countdown leading to this, we have finally come to that time.  I call my mom and she clears here schedule for the afternoon, finishing up with her morning patients and then heading to the hospital.
We arrive at Shea Hospital, only to have a team awaiting us, and we meet our angel of a nurse, ironically with the same name as my older sister, Janelle.  No triage for me, directly to the birthing suites, which means no extra poking and prodding!  Mr.'s youngest sister works at Shea Hospital.  Not only does she work there, but she just so happens to work in the OB registration department and who do you think picked up the phone when Dr. L called and prepped the hospital for my arrival?  She had tried calling and texting us, but Mr., ignored her call and text her saying we were still at the doctors.  Little did we know, Dr. L had spoken directly to her and she knew we were headed her way.
At this time, I was finally having contractions, nothing horrible, but uncomfortable.  We get checked in, asked a ton of questions, I give my nurse my birth plan and it all begins.  First, a hep-lock.  We had prepped for labor by taking bradley classes.  (The Bradley Method is all about having a natural, drug-free child birth.)  Unfortunately, at the hospital you have to at least have a hep-lock in case of an emergency they can pump stuff in you.  Ultimately, it's the iv needle in you, capped off.  Then, they monitored baby for 15 minutes, and this continued every hour until he was born.  Initially, I tried to walk around the hospital to get things going.  The hospital is not the place to walk, there's too much stimulation, too much noise, you can't focus and noise, quite frankly, every little bit made contractions that much more unbearable.  Once, we were in the quiet of the suite it was so much easier to focus and relax.  The first two hours I birthed in the jacuzzi tub in between baby monitoring.  My mom finally arrived about 1:00pm.  After the third round of monitoring contractions really intensified.
At this point, I should really let Mr. finish the birth story... I was so inside myself, concentrating through the contractions, the earth literally stood still inside that birthing suite.  My birthing team was Janelle, whom we only saw to monitor baby,  (She was really amazing at letting me labor in peace and have exactly the birth I wanted.) my mom and my coach, my friend, my lover, my partner, my Mr.
Mr. truly was the best partner, the best coach.  I already knew how amazing he was, but in those moments, in that darkened birthing suite, in my weakest moments he was my strength.  He held my hand, and rubbed my back, he encouraged me without speaking.  He understood all I needed was him by my side.  Not many words were spoken once things were in full swing.  Eventually, my body tired and I wanted nothing more than to take a nap.  The contractions were crashing down one upon another as I hit transition phase, the last big hill before pushing, and in these moments, I did ask for anything, something, just so the contractions would stop and I could take a nap.  I knew I could handle labor longer, if only I could just take a nap.  Mr. and my mom both soothed me and encouraged that I was fine, that this was it, there was no time for a nap.  Let me tell you, transition sucks,  it hurts, those contractions crashing down on one another, tire you relentlessly.  They tell me I did sleep in between some contractions.  I thought I was a heavy breathing banshee, writhing in pain, whimpering, but was told they could hardly hear my breaths, not even Mr.'s sister down the hall at work could hear me.  She has told me stories of woman yelling, screaming, crying and it is heard down the hall.  Internally, everything goes much differently that what other's partake in.  At this time, I was ready to go back in the tub, I asked to have Janelle check me, and then I was going back in the tub.  Hot water was so relaxing and it was exactly what I wanted.  We paged Janelle, she checked, I was a 9!
Hallelujah, all of this really was for something,  I was far from the 6 I had been at a few short hours before.  Janelle said Dr. L said it was okay to go in to tub, internally, I am screaming uhhh no, I will walk all the way there sit down, just to be told to get out you can't birth in the tub.  I remain on my side in the bed, within minutes Dr. L finally arrives, asks Janelle if she has time to change, and Janelle says yes! Internally, I'm thinking, do they not realize it's time, I have got to push, here comes baby.  Beyond exhausted, my body is pushing.. It's weird when there's no control, just your body saying, get out child.  Mr. asks me if I want to know the color of baby's hair, this in itself gives me my second wind "my baby has hair!".  He's there, right there, let's do this.  With only 20 minutes of pushing I deliver my beautiful baby boy at 7:13pm, 12 short hours since the time my water broke, 12 days early on the 12th of February.  Janelle even stayed on to help me finish out my delivery, even though it was past her shift end, she had to meet this incredible baby.
Those first moments are so surreal, you're so outside of your body, and this new baby is so perfect you don't believe it, but you do, because he is right there and nothing in the world matters, except you're in pain and the doctor is poking and prodding.  (Nothing really prepares you for that pain, it's a pain without purpose, so it seems worse than the actually delivery).  You want to know if he has 10 fingers and 10 toes.  What color are his eyes? It is such a whirlwind, and then all is quiet.  The room empties and all that's left is baby, the new mom, new dad, grandma, and one nurse who teaches you how to breastfeed your baby and teaches you all that bathroom stuff.  (the icky after care you'll be doing for the next few weeks.  a short bathroom break has now turned into a 10 minutes ordeal).
They move us to our post-partum room...  Seeing the waiting room filled with 20 or more people, they put us into one of the bigger post rooms, which was actually a delivery room at one point.  Slowly, baby gets to meet his grandparents, great-grandma, aunts, uncles, cousins, his family.  Eventually, finally, it's just baby, Mr., and I.  I die for that moment, the moment when it's just us 3.  We get to revel in the newness of this beautiful soul we've been chosen to be parents of.  I do not know how we got any sleep that night.  Mr. was so sweet, letting me sleep while he held baby so that I knew he was safe and secure.  Or, more for his own surety of this new tiny human being taken care of.
Labor and delivery is a privilege.  Not all women get to experience the labor of love that is childbearing.  That in itself it is a miracle.  Those moments I will never forget.  Already, the pain of it has subsided and you truly do manage to forget how much it actually hurt, but all the details, will never be forgotten.  Once you have accomplished that marathon of a day, you truly feel you could do anything, even childbearing again.

21 March 2014

80 days of 2014

Holidays are over.  New year has begun, and yet it feels like things have begun all over again for the second time already.  I promise I only blinked and yet, here we are 1/4 of the way through 2014.  Baby is here and life could not be better.  We had a whirlwind of a time since the ball dropped New Years Eve.
January: Countdown really began for arrival of tiny human Rayyan.  A lot to prepare for and a baby shower to be had.  About a week before the baby shower I came down with Puppps.  I was pretty miserable for almost two weeks.  Luckily, I found two saving graces, Grandpa's pine tar soap while taking a cold shower (so miserable in January) and ice packs.  Husband was amazing and would get me new cold packs at 2:00am when the itching tended to be the worst.  I am extremely fortunate that the itching subsided within 10 days.  Some woman report that they itch until birth and sometimes, even after.  The rash stuck around for awhile longer, however the worst part, itching, lasted just under two weeks.
The baby shower Julie threw was fabulous.  Book themed, the food table was full of children's books and coordinating foods.  Every guest was asked to bring a book to start out baby's library.  Boy, were we spoiled.  I love to read and have loved reading to baby in-utero and since his arrival.  This boy sure is loved.
The day after the baby shower, my Grandpa Temple passed away.  That whole following week was a blur, funeral arrangements, viewing, funeral, luncheon.  We were lucky enough to see him on his final day.  His whole last few weeks went by in whirlwind.  Over the holidays he had been sick and we unfortunately didn't get to spend his last holidays together.  New Years we found out he had lung and brain cancer.  They gave him a few months to live, 12 days later he passed.
The next three weeks were dedicated to anything and everything baby.  Dr's appointments, stocking up on diapers, groceries, cleaning house, writing thank you notes.  We thought we had longer, but baby had a mind of his own.  We had a list, smallish at this point, of things we still wanted to get done before baby came.  We even had a little date planned for valentine's day, kind of our last date night out.  Wednesday, February 12, one month to the day since my Grandpa's passing, and Mr.'s alarm goes off.  I rouse with my morning bathroom stop, being 9 months pregnant, not surprising this is my first activity of the morning, only to find my water has broken.  Twelve hours later I am holding my baby boy in my arms.  (Birth story to come tomorrow).
Which brings us to today, Friday, March 21 as our perfect little family of three.  The past 5 weeks have been filled with diapers, feedings, sleep and lack thereof, and tons of dr's appointments, oh and thank you notes that have still yet to go out.  I fail, major on that one. Hoping to finally get those out next week.  *fingers crossed*
Here I sit, so blessed to be a stay at home mom, with the absolute cutest baby ever, who grunts relentlessly, and the best husband a wife could ask for.  From the moment my water broke, even before, I have had the best support from my Mr.  Starting with taking our Bradley birthing classes, to helping ease my pregnancy pains, and being the most kick A labor coach, honestly, I could not ask for more.  I am blessed beyond words.
It was all worth the wait.

02 December 2013

big things are happening

It's been over 5 months since I posted anything.
Life is going fast, almost too fast.
But that's okay, because big things are happening.
The biggest, being my belly.

The last time I posted, I knew we were pregnant.  We found out on father's day.  We couldn't believe it... We always knew we wanted to start a family right away, and apparently that was in our plans.  A honeymoon baby of all things. Isa and I decided to keep it a secret for awhile.  It was really fun to have that secret for over a month, we almost caved numerous times, but we wanted to see the doctor first and then we finally told our families in July.  Everyone was so ecstatic, such a surreal moment.
And now, here we are months later, the holidays in full force and baby boy Rayyan due at the end of February.  Life could not be more insane and perfect at the same time.
